14th Annual Rail to the Fair Excursion on Saturday, July 22


Harrington -- At a press conference this morning, the Executive Director of the Delaware Transit Corporation, Stephen Kingsberry, invited fairgoers to ride the train to the Delaware State Fair. DART First State personnel kicked off the 14th Annual RAIL to the FAIR with representatives from the Delaware State Fair, Amtrak, Norfolk Southern Railway and the Delmarva Rail Passenger Association at Patrons Plaza on the Delaware State Fairgrounds.

The 14th annual RAIL to the FAIR excursion will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2006. The one-day round trip train ride will leave Philadelphia's 30th Street Station at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at Delaware's 87th State Fair at 12:35 p.m. Stops along the way will include: Claymont, Wilmington, Fairplay Station at Churchmans Crossing, Newark, Middletown, and Wyoming. Some passengers may choose the extended round-trip excursion from the Fairgrounds, along the rail line toward Georgetown. The train will depart the State Fair at 5:30 p.m. for the return trip north.

RAIL to the FAIR is a fun-filled tour offering passengers a unique view of Delaware's ever-changing landscape, while allowing them to enjoy a ride on a modern, air-conditioned Amtrak train, complete with the services of a cafe' car. The annual rail excursions provides a relaxing tour of the First State. Imagine a day at the Fair with no driving hassles or parking problems.

Depending on boarding location adult round-trip fares to the State Fair range from $15.00 to $65.00. Prices include general admission to the Fairgrounds. Reduced fares for children under 9 years of age are also available.
