Projects
Blue Ball Properties
The improvements planned in the Blue Ball Properties Project will transform the area into a gateway for Brandywine Hundred communities and surrounding natural areas. The Master Plan calls for improvements to:
- Recreation, such as a children's park, multi-use play fields, enhanced golfing opportunities, and walking/biking trails
- Historical Resources, such as restoration and preservation of the Blue Ball Dairy Barn built by industrialist Alfred I. duPont
- Environmental Resources, such as "bio-swale" stormwater management
- Transportation, including roadway improvements and a trail system that separates vehicles and pedestrians and links walkers and bike riders to neighboring communities and parks.
The project is a joint effort led by the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and the Delaware Economic Development Office with the assistance of area residents, civic leaders, Brandywine Hundred legislators and representatives from New Castle County and the City of Wilmington. This web site provides the latest information on the project's progress. For a record of early meetings and project history details, visit the Archives page.
